Had a batch of stuff in all of which looks like good news for cyclists:

20mph Zones:

Prohibition of Driving on the following (unmade roads)

Ouseburn Rd
Ribston Rd
Vale Rd
Waverley Lane

 - This is primarily to prevent fly-tipping.

Height and width restrictions on the following:

Hagg Hill & related roads
Mayfield Valley  - most roads
Mortimer Rd


 - Traffic calming on Dyche Lane

 - Restriction on waiting and reduction in length of the 40mph section on Chapeltown Rd & Ecclesfield Rd.

I'll be writing in to support all these.

Change to blog name and focus

It occurred to me that all I ever post in this blog is info about TRO's (Traffic Regulation Orders) and other legal Orders I've received from Sheffield City Council. So in order that the name on the tin reflects what's insid, I've changed the name and URL of the blog. Hope you find it useful if you want to know what's going on in your area. 

TRO's - Boston St & School "Keep Clears"

An interesting proposal for Boston St (the bottom of Cemetery Rd as it empties onto London Rd.) The problem here for a long time has been that motorists routinely ignore the bus gate, making it hazardous for cyclists and holding up buses. The council wants to enforce this by mobile camera but has to make sure the arrangements are legally enforceable before this can start. Hopefully this scan shows what is proposed:-

The left turn lane will be buses, bikes, taxis only 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Motor traffic will be able to go straight on but not turn left - a  lot of the current abusers are trying to get onto the ring road avoiding the queues on Summerfield St and Moore St.

Malin Bridge

Had a TRO on this yesterday.

The bus stop next to the tram stop is to be improved to accommodate the Tramlink buses taking passengers onto Stannington (where it was supposed to go initially  - NIMBYs stopped that.) There will be a new bus lanes to allow the buses to pull out onto Holme Lane and a keep clear section to allow them to complete this maneouvre. All well and good. 

On visiting the location last night however, I discovered that the pavements around Malin Bridge have been made shared use and some toucan crossings installed. Whilst this may be the best solution for the location, there has been no consultation over this development - I have received no paperwork from the council, it has not been to the Cycle Forum and to the best of my knowledge the Cycling Lead Officer for the council, Dick Skelton, has not been informed. 

I've asked the council to investigate how this has happened  and ask that in future the cycling lobby groups are properly consulted about all developments that affect cyclists. 

No Going Dutch for Ecclesall Rd

I received this letter yesterday.

The key section seems to be "it is unlikely...that a segregated uphill cycle route on Ecclesall Rd between Hunter's Bar and Banner Cross could be accommodated under current usage arrangements.

So, no attempt to change current usage arrangements is to be made, the private car is to be prioritised over cycling, walking and using public transport conditions will worsen for the poor folk who actually live on Ecclesall Rd (I used to inhabit a front bedroom on this stretch so I know just what it's like) At least we seem to have scotched the daft idea of introducing shared use on the pavements along here but no sensible alternative is being considered. Enhancing the quiet routes on road nearby is to be welcomed but there is no guarantee as to the timeframes for this.

Highway committee is making the decisions on this scheme on October 10.
